My name is Miss B! This is my second year as a seventh grade teacher in South Los Angeles, California. I graduated from Marymount California University with my Associate’s degree in Communications. After I walked across the stage, I realized that didn’t want to be a public speaker. I graduated from Loyola Marymount University with my Bachelor’s degree in English, then my Master’s degree in Secondary Education.
As some may know, the title of this blog is a play on Drake’s 2016 album title, “Views from the 6.” I chose that title because I’m a fan of words in their purest, simplest, most complicated forms, including music. I incorporate music into my classroom a lot because I believe that, as J.K. Rowling (aka #bae) once said,
“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”
Views From the Seventh is dedicated to new teachers who may not always have all of the answers. Just as I have to engage and find ways to bridge the educational gap through current pop culture, I also have to be an observer of the world from the point of view of a seventh grade student. With empathy, I can help my students succeed.
I love teaching, traveling, meditating, Beyonce, Harry Potter (SlytheRaven), writing, searching Pinterest, collecting crystals and gemstones, tattoos, researching dead buildings, and learning about words. In the future, I hope to get my PhD in Linguistics or Urban Education.
